Alexsey Kashtelyan, Yoga Teacher

Since moving from Belarus to the other end of the world - I have come to call Tucson, Arizona my home. Other than my first love of drawing, I have come to see yoga as a guiding path in my life. After ~7 years of asana practice, I was admitted to the Devotional School of Yoga, Belize, for my Yoga Alliance certified 200 hour training by Kali Kennedy. Since then I have become a devoted yoga teacher. It is my goal to help whomever is willing in their practice. I am comfortable teaching all ages of student, in a wide variety of styles, including: hatha, vinyasa, yin, and gentle yoga. And always with a smile.

Kali Kennedy, Founder of The Devotional School of Yoga

I believe everybody has a right to access a yoga practice, pull from it what they need and leave behind what doesn’t serve them. I completed my initial trainings in 2010, and since then have been honored to journey through power yoga, vinyasa styles, hatha, and restorative practices. On a quest to eliminate my own back pain and help others on a similar mission, I completed a back-care (Happy Back) training at Yoga is Therapy in 2015.

Following the completion of my back care training, I found the courage and drive to open my own business in 2015, The Devotional School of Yoga. I have loads of fun planning destination trainings and retreats and love leading others through an in-depth study of yoga and its many aspects. Not to mention, traveling the world is pretty cool...! As a teacher, my job is to be flexible and offer something that can be received by all students regardless of their reason for yoga. I am constantly in process, exploring more effective ways to offer yoga, approaching the practice from different angles.

I also have the privilege of being in a position of leadership at 4th Avenue Yoga, and have been teaching here regular yoga class since 2013. This is my yoga hub, a warm and welcoming studio that offers a wide variety of classes along with other amazing instructors. Weekly you can find me here teaching happy-busy hot vinyasa classes, gentle yoga, and workshops on several topics like headstands, back care, and the 8 Limbs of Yoga.

Michele Meadows, Licensed Massage Therapist

I grew up all around the world (thanks to the military) but have mostly lived in AZ. I had a passion for massage when I was about 15. When I graduated high school, everyone was going to traditional higher education institutes, and massage school wasn't even something I thought of. When I was doing some intense martial arts training, massage came back into my life, and all the passion was reignited. I began researching options for massage schools and found The Desert Institute of Healing Arts right here in Tucson. I started massage school at the age of 36 with the intention that it would be my last career. Now, almost 17 years later, I know I was correct.

I have had a private practice since 2002 mainly specializing in injury management and rehabilitation, prenatal massage, and working with cancer survivors. I also specialize in Chi Nei Tsang (abdominal massage). Tension in the belly is connected to so much pain though out the body. I have worked with professional and collegiate athletes, and was the team massage therapist for the University of Arizona women's gymnastics team for five seasons.

During my 5 year teaching tenure as an instructor at the Desert Institute of Healing Arts and Cortiva School of Massage, I taught Injury Management & Rehabilitation, Prenatal Massage, Massage working with special populations, and clinic/lab classes. I also assisted in Massage 1, 2, & 3 level classes. Noticing that there was a need for continuing education focusing on specific orthopedic injuries and conditions, I designed a series of classes that were taught to the veteran massage therapists to hone and sharpen their skills. The general public can benefit greatly from education on self care. I have hosted self care challenges on Instagram and have a Chi Nei Tsang self help routine, that I teach in person, that is open to anyone.

Jaimie Perkunas, Founder of Yoga Is Therapy

Jaimie has her doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT), Yoga Alliance Certified Continuing education provider, an educator for 200 level teacher training (E-RYT), and certified International Association of Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT).

I started yoga for fitness and then started to notice my chronic back pain, tight hip flexors, along with my mental and emotional states began improve. For me, Yoga is therapy because it helps direct my body and mind into a positive and healing state despite the chaos I may feel around me. I find my sitting breathing practice every morning, along with modifying poses for my body and watching my breathing during my asana practice, has allowed yoga to be my therapy.

Since I practice physical therapy, I attract students who have a history of injuries, surgeries, or age related changes and who are interested in learning how to do yoga safely in their unique body. My students are interested in learning how their muscles and joints work together and what they can do to work with or prevent injuries.

I try my best to weave the first 5 limbs of yoga in my classes in a practical down-to-earth way. My classes are focused on asana (poses) and pranayama (breathing). My students learn how to observe reactions to their bodies by paying attention to their breathing and I encourage my students to find a pose they can breathe in. I encourage students to ask questions throughout class to confirm they are feeling the stretch in the correct location.

Lydie Vagnerova of Lydie Hormone Yoga

Lydie was born in the Czech Republic but has lived in Tucson, Arizona since 1998. She is a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant and works at a Rehabilitation Hospital. She has always been involved in various sports: marathon running, weight lifting, yoga, biking, hiking, skiing, and horseback riding. Lydie has struggled with thyroid dysfunction since her early 20's and had difficulty controlling her symptoms with traditional medicine. She searched for ways to help herself, which eventually led her to Hormone Yoga therapy developed by Dinah Rodrigues from Brazil. She started practicing daily and was amazed with her positive results. Therefore, she decided to share this wonderful method with others. Lydie obtained her Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) certification in 2017. After self studying for a year, she  then traveled to Europe for more training and certification with Dinah Rodrigues. She is now certified in Hormone Yoga for Women and Hormone Yoga for Diabetes. She is among the first few teachers in the USA who are able to teach this technique.
