Would you like to do yoga, but have difficulty getting down on the ground? Do you work with students, clients, or patients who can't get down on the floor due to age, weight, disability or inflexibility? Chair yoga can bring the benefits of yoga to those unable to take part in a traditional yoga class.

Chair yoga is a modality that allows us to modify yoga poses so that they can be done while seated in a chair. These modifications make yoga accessible to anyone who sits for the majority of their day, cannot stand for long periods of time, or lack the mobility to move easily. While seated on chairs, we can do versions of twists, hip stretches, forward bends, and mild backbends.

Chair yoga offers many of the same health benefits of yoga such as improved strength, increased flexibilities, better breathing, stress reduction, pain management, improved sleep quality, and an overall improved sense of well-being.

Chair yoga classes are appropriate for just about anyone, but are excellent for adapting poses for seniors, people with bigger bodies, pregnant women, and people with neurological impairments. Chair yoga is a great way to bring yoga to the school or office, too!

This course is for anyone interested in learning more about Chair Yoga for personal use or teaching chair yoga, including healthcare professionals, yoga teachers, and yoga teachers in training. Upon completion, you'll earn a certificate in Chair Yoga from Wise Owl School of Yoga. Registered Yoga Teachers may receive 6 hours of Continuing Education hours through Yoga Alliance.

Tuition includes:
  • Livestream / Zoom Lectures and Demonstration
  • A manual and handouts
  • Private Facebook Group for continuing support
In this training, you will learn to:

  • Plan and Teach an accessible chair yoga class
  • Choose appropriate postures and breathing techniques
  • Incorporate meditation, relaxation, and breathing techniques to improve health and well-being
