Frequently Asked Questions

Wise Owl Sessions are designed around one simple idea: you shouldn't have to figure out which wellness modality you need before you book. You bring yourself, tell us how you're feeling and what you need, and we'll create a personalized experience from there.
  • What is a Wise Owl Session?
    • A Wise Owl Session is a private, personalized wellness experience created around you. Rather than booking a single modality, such as yoga or Pilates, we can thoughtfully combine different practices based on your goals, preferences, energy, and what your body needs that day.
    • Your session may include yoga, Pilates Reformer, somatic movement, mobility, assisted stretching, Thai bodywork, restorative practices, breathwork, meditation, mindfulness, Yoga Nidra, sound, or other appropriate wellness practices.
  • Do I need to know what kind of session I want?
    • Not at all. In fact, that's one of the reasons Wise Owl Sessions were created.
    • You don't need to decide whether you need Pilates, yoga, somatics, stretching, meditation, or restorative work. We'll begin with a conversation about how you're feeling, what you've been experiencing, and what you'd like from your session. You bring yourself. We'll begin there.
  • What happens at the beginning of my session?
    • We'll start with a brief check-in. Depending on your goals, we may talk about how your body is feeling, your current energy level, areas of tension or discomfort, stress, sleep, movement, and what you'd like to focus on. From there, we'll decide together what would be most supportive for that day's session.
  • Will every Wise Owl Session be the same?
    • No—and that's the point. One week you may want Pilates, strength, balance, and mobility. At your next appointment, you may arrive exhausted and decide that restorative yoga, gentle stretching, breathwork, and relaxation would be more beneficial. Your session changes as your needs change.
  • What are the session options?
    • 30-Minute Wise Owl Reset — $40
      • A focused session when you need movement, mobility, Pilates, stretching, somatic practice, breathwork, meditation, or support around a specific intention.
    • 60-Minute Wise Owl Session — $75
      • Our signature personalized session, offering enough time to explore your needs and combine practices when appropriate.
    • 90-Minute Wise Owl Deep Dive — $105
      • A more spacious experience that allows us to combine multiple practices and spend additional time with movement, bodywork, somatics, restoration, or mindfulness.
    • 2-Hour Wise Owl Retreat — $150
      • A personalized private mini-retreat with time to move, receive, rest, breathe, reflect, and reconnect.
  • Can I choose what we do during my session?
    • Absolutely. This is a collaborative experience. If you know you want Pilates, yoga, Thai bodywork, stretching, somatic movement, or another specific practice, tell us.
    • If you aren't sure, that's okay too. We'll talk through the options and create your session together. You are always welcome to decline or modify any suggested practice.
  • Can I combine different practices in one appointment?
    • Yes. That's one of the primary benefits of a Wise Owl Session.
    • For example, a 60-minute session might combine Pilates and mobility work, while a 90-minute session might include yoga, assisted stretching, Thai bodywork, and restorative practice. Longer sessions naturally provide more time to combine modalities without feeling rushed.
  • Are Wise Owl Sessions available online?
    • Yes. Wise Owl Sessions can be scheduled in person or online via Zoom, whenever the practices being used are appropriate for a virtual setting.
    • Online sessions may include yoga, somatic movement, mobility, functional movement, restorative yoga, breathwork, meditation, Yoga Nidra, mindfulness, guided relaxation, and other personalized practices.
  • Is online pricing different?
    • No. Pricing is the same whether your session takes place in person or online. You're investing in personalized time, guidance, experience, and support—not simply a location.
  • Can I switch between online and in-person sessions?
    • Yes. Flexibility is part of the Wise Owl approach. You might meet in person one week and online the next. This can be especially helpful when you're traveling, have a busy schedule, or simply prefer practicing from home on a particular day.
  • What can only be done in person?
    • Hands-on practices such as Thai bodywork and assisted stretching require an in-person appointment. Pilates Reformer sessions also take place in person because specialized equipment is required. If you're unsure whether what you want can be done online, just ask.
  • Do I need experience with yoga or Pilates?
    • No. Wise Owl Sessions are personalized to your experience, comfort level, and goals. Beginners are welcome, and you do not need to be flexible, strong, experienced with yoga, familiar with somatics, or knowledgeable about any of the practices we offer.
  • What should I wear?
    • Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. For sessions incorporating Thai bodywork, yoga, Pilates, somatics, mobility, or assisted stretching, comfortable movement-friendly clothing is recommended.
  • What should I bring?
    • For in-person sessions, most equipment and props needed for your session will be provided.
    • For online sessions, we'll let you know if anything specific would be helpful. Many practices can be adapted using items you already have at home, such as pillows, blankets, chairs, or a yoga mat.
  • Can I book a session just for Pilates or Thai bodywork?
    • Yes. Personalization doesn't mean you have to combine modalities.
    • If you love Pilates and want your entire appointment dedicated to the Reformer, we can do that. If you want Thai bodywork, your session can focus on Thai bodywork. The flexibility simply means you don't have to stay within one modality when something else would better support you.
  • What if I have an injury, limitation, or health concern?
    • Please share relevant injuries, physical limitations, pregnancy, recent procedures, or other health considerations before your session so practices can be appropriately adapted.

Wise Owl Wellness services are intended for wellness and educational purposes and are not a substitute for medical care, physical therapy, psychotherapy, or other licensed healthcare services.
  • What if something doesn't feel right during my session?
    • Tell us. Your comfort, autonomy, and consent matter throughout the entire experience. You're always encouraged to ask questions, request a modification, decline a practice, change positions, take a break, or stop an activity.
  • How often should I schedule a Wise Owl Session?
    • That depends entirely on what you're looking for.
    • Some clients may book occasionally when they need extra support. Others may benefit from weekly or biweekly sessions when working toward a particular goal.
    • For those who want personalized wellness to become a regular part of their lives, The Perch Membership starts at $139/month and includes two private sessions each month, along with additional membership benefits.
  • What if I want to work toward a specific goal?
    • For clients who want more structure and continuity, The Wise Way personalized programs offer a multi-week approach around specific intentions such as stress reduction, mindful movement, strength, mobility, rest, or reconnecting with your body. Rather than treating each appointment as an isolated experience, we'll create a progression specifically for you.
  • How do I know which session length to choose?
    • If you have one specific focus or are short on time, choose the 30-Minute Reset.
    • For most clients, the 60-Minute Wise Owl Session is a great place to begin.
    • Choose the 90-Minute Deep Dive when you'd like to combine several practices or want more time for both movement and restoration.
    • Choose the 2-Hour Wise Owl Retreat when you want to slow down and experience something deeper—a personalized mini-retreat devoted entirely to your well-being.
  • I'm still not sure what I need. Can I book anyway?
    • Absolutely. You don't need to arrive with a plan. You don't need to know the terminology. And you don't need to choose the “right” modality. Tell us how you're feeling. We'll start there.

FAQs about SomaStretch

Picture
  • What is SomaStretch? SomaStretch is a fully clothed, restorative bodywork experience combining assisted stretching, gentle compression, rocking, joint mobilization, mindful movement, and supported positioning. Inspired by traditional Thai bodywork and informed by yoga, somatic movement, mobility practices, and intuitive body awareness, SomaStretch is designed to help you move with greater freedom and ease.
  • What does “Soma” mean? “Soma” refers to the living body as experienced from within. SomaStretch reflects the idea that stretching isn't simply something being done to your body. You're invited to notice sensation, breathe, soften, and participate in the experience.
  • Is SomaStretch the same as Thai Massage?SomaStretch is inspired by techniques traditionally found in Thai bodywork, but is its own Wise Owl Wellness approach. It incorporates assisted stretching with influences from yoga, somatic movement, mobility, breath awareness, and restorative practices.
  • Do I keep my clothes on? Yes. SomaStretch is always fully clothed. Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows your body to move freely, similar to what you might wear for yoga or exercise.
  • Is oil or lotion used? Typically, no. Because SomaStretch is performed through clothing and focuses on assisted movement, stretching, compression, and mobilization, oils and lotions are generally unnecessary.
  • Is SomaStretch performed on a massage table or the floor? It can be offered on a comfortable floor mat or massage table. Your session can be adapted based on your mobility, comfort, preferences, and the focus of your session.
  • Do I need to be flexible? Not at all! In fact, feeling stiff or inflexible is a perfectly good reason to explore SomaStretch. The goal isn't to see how far your body can stretch. The goal is to explore comfortable, functional movement and greater ease.
  • What happens during a SomaStretch session? You'll relax while your practitioner gently guides your body through a personalized sequence of supported stretches and movements. Depending on your needs, the session may incorporate compression, rocking, joint movements, gentle traction, assisted stretches, breath awareness, and periods of stillness. You are encouraged to communicate throughout the session so movements can be adjusted to your comfort.
  • Does SomaStretch hurt? SomaStretch should not be painful. You may experience the sensation of a stretch or notice areas of tension, but the practice isn't based on forcing the body into deeper positions. Communication between you and your practitioner is an important part of the experience.
  • What are the potential benefits? People may choose SomaStretch to support flexibility, comfortable range of motion, mobility, relaxation, body awareness, and relief from everyday muscular tension or stiffness. Individual experiences and results vary.
  • Is SomaStretch a workout? Not in the traditional sense. Much of the session involves receiving assisted movement, although you may occasionally be invited to participate actively, breathe intentionally, or gently engage a muscle or movement pattern.
  • How will I feel afterward? Experiences vary. Some people leave feeling lighter, more spacious, relaxed, grounded, or more comfortable in their movement. Because every body responds differently, your experience may also change from session to session.
  • How long is a session? SomaStretch can be adapted to different session lengths. A shorter session can focus on a particular area or movement goal, while a longer session allows time for a more comprehensive whole-body experience.
  • Can I request work on a specific area? Absolutely. You can identify areas where you're experiencing everyday stiffness or limited mobility, such as your hips, shoulders, back, legs, or neck. Your practitioner can use that information to personalize the session while still considering how the body moves as a whole.
  • Can SomaStretch be adapted for limited mobility? Yes. One of the principles of SomaStretch is adaptability. Positions and movements can be modified based on mobility, comfort, and the individual's needs. Some people may be better suited to table-based work rather than getting down onto a floor mat.
  • Is SomaStretch appropriate during pregnancy or if I have an injury or medical condition? Certain techniques or positions may not be appropriate for everyone. Tell your practitioner about pregnancy, recent surgery, injuries, osteoporosis, joint replacements, significant pain, or other relevant medical concerns before your session. When appropriate, seek guidance from your healthcare professional about participating. SomaStretch is a wellness service and is not a substitute for medical care, physical therapy, diagnosis, or treatment.
  • How often should I receive SomaStretch? There's no universal schedule. Some people enjoy SomaStretch occasionally when they're feeling particularly stiff or stressed, while others incorporate sessions into a regular movement and wellness routine.
  • Can SomaStretch complement yoga or Pilates? Yes. SomaStretch can pair particularly well with yoga, Pilates, mobility work, strength training, walking, and other movement practices because it gives you an opportunity to slow down, receive movement, and explore your body's range of motion with support.
  • Do I need experience with yoga, bodywork, or somatics? No experience is necessary. SomaStretch is designed to meet you where you are.
  • What should I do before my appointment? Wear comfortable clothing, avoid eating a very heavy meal immediately beforehand, and arrive ready to communicate about how your body is feeling and what you'd like from your session.
  • What makes SomaStretch different? SomaStretch isn't simply about becoming “more flexible.” It's about developing a different relationship with movement.
